  1. Tilsit is a semi-hard cheese, yellow in color, made from pasteurized cow’s milk, although unpasteurized versions are available. It has a good strong flavor. It originated from Eastern Europe, in what used to be Eastern Prussia, and is now made in a number of European countries.
  2. Tilsit is high in fat, approx. 26g per 100g. It is also high in sodium. If you are on a weight loss diet you should consider avoiding this cheese.
  3. It provides a good source of vitamins A, B1-B3, B5, B6, B12, calcium, phosphorus and selenium.
  4. Tilsit aids healthy bones and teeth. Other Tilsit cheese benefits are believed to include protection against brain atrophy given its high vitamin B12 content.
  5. Tilsit is a versatile cheese and the Germans traditionally serve it thinly sliced for breakfast. It toasts well and is also good for cooking and can be melted into cheese sauces.
